The Selfless Love of Charity

Charity suffereth long, {and} is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, {vaunteth...: or, is not rash}

— 1 Corinthians 13:4

As we reflect on the characteristics of charity, also known as love, we're reminded that it's not about us, but about others. Charity suffers long, meaning it patiently endures through difficult times. It is kind, showing compassion and empathy towards those in need. Charity doesn't envy or compare itself to others, but instead focuses on serving and loving others. In a world where comparison and competition often dominate our lives, charity offers a refreshing alternative. By embracing this selfless love, we can break free from the chains of pride and selfishness, and instead become instruments of God's love in the lives of those around us.

Prayer

Dear Lord, help me to cultivate a heart of charity in my life. May I be patient, kind, and selfless in my interactions with others. Fill me with your love, that I may serve and love others as you have first loved me.
